The International Student Exchange Program provides the opportunity for students to study abroad at a partner institution while retaining full-time registration status at Lakehead University. The full range of services normally available to foreign students enrolled at the host institution are generally provided to an exchange student. This often includes assistance with arrangements for accommodation in a student residence. Expenses associated with accommodation, travel, visas, resident permits, health insurance coverage and the like are the responsibility of each exchange student.
When given credit for courses taken in an exchange program, the transfer credit may be applied to the student's program; however, a grade is not assigned. Students should note that it may not be possible to take a full, transferable course load at the host university.
The student is responsible for the applicable tuition fees at Lakehead University and the course materials, activity fees, etc. at the host university. If a student withdraws from the program prematurely, the applicable withdrawal and refund policies shall apply.
An International experience can give students a competitive edge when it comes to finding employment after graduation. It is not always necessary for students to be fluent in the language of the host country. Several institutions offer their courses in English and host institutions often go out of their way to make Canadian students feel welcome by offering introductory language courses and special courses to acquaint the student with their country's political and social systems.
Lakehead students have proven to be very good ambassadors for the University, and all of our partner institutions are eager to welcome more.
